Dr. Spruill received his Doctorate of Education in counseling psychology from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. His special interests within medicine include mind and body relationships, lifestyle behavior effects on health and wellbeing, medically unexplained symptoms, motivational Interviewing, physician-patient communication, suicide and biomedical ethics. He has received many honors including being elected by peers as Co-chair of Group on Behavioral Science Society of Behavioral Medicine in 2006. He was awarded a special interest group research grant to conduct a national survey of exiting third year family medicine residents in 2008 and was presented with Florida Hospital's "Model of Excellence" award for serving as a role model to peers in 2006-2008.
