Bio

Dr. Richard Margaitis, DO is board certified in family medicine, neuromuscular medicine and primary care sports medicine. He graduated from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed a four-year integrated family medicine and neuromuscular medicine internship and residency at Florida Hospital East Orlando. He next completed a one-year sports medicine fellowship at East Carolina University’s Pitt County Memorial Hospital/Brody School of Medicine in Greenville, N.C. An avid athlete who has competed on multiple sports teams through the years, Dr. Margaitis was naturally drawn to the field of primary care sports medicine. He has substantial experience in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of musculoskeletal injuries and illness through his past work with the athletic teams at East Carolina University and his service as team physician to athletes at William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Miss. while teaching osteopathic manipulative medicine at the college’s medical school. He also frequently volunteers his medical services to area high schools for pre-participation sports physicals and various tournaments and competitions.

Along with his expertise in the broad areas of family medicine, neuromuscular medicine and primary care sports medicine, Dr. Margaitis has advanced skills in employing musculoskeletal ultrasound for diagnosis and injection procedures including platelet rich plasma and prolotherapy to treat chronic and acute sports injuries. He is also trained in providing craniosacral therapy to address a variety of medical complaints including migraines, temporomandibular joint problems and coccydynia. He is a published medical researcher, presenter and lecturer and an active member of numerous respected medical associations, including the American Osteopathic Association, American College of Osteopathic Physicians, American Academy of Osteopathy and American Medical Society of Sports Medicine.
